McCASLIN ASSOCIATES serving as the Architect of Record helped turn this idea
into reality. South Side on Lamar is now a new city center with over 400 loft
apartments, shops, restaurants, and a nightclub. The enormously successful Adaptive
Reuse of this building was showcased in the magazine Texas Architect and at
the 1999 American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention.
This grand historic building was built in 1909 for Sears and Roebuck as
their catalog division’s distribution and warehouse center. It is strategically
located at the edge of downtown Dallas.
In the mid-1990s a developer acquired this 1,100,000 square foot property
from Sears with the idea of turning the building into loft apartments.
